The below update has been provided by the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing regarding the redevelopment of the Mile End Sports Complex:
The redevelopment of the Mile End Sports Complex (MESC) continues to progress, with significant work undertaken to prepare the site for construction of the new facility.
During demolition and early site works, asbestos containing material (ACM) was identified in ground under a clean fill layer requiring additional remediation works in line with legislative requirements. As a result, the construction program has been revised, with the project now expected to be completed in the second half of 2028.
The safety of workers, neighbouring properties and the broader community remain our highest priority. All remediation and construction activities are being undertaken in accordance with relevant Work Health and Safety legislation and SafeWork SA Codes of Practice. Appropriate controls and management measures are in place throughout the project to ensure works are carried out safely and responsibly including air monitoring beyond legislative requirements.
These measures also ensure that the outdoor courts at MESC remain safe and available for public use during the redevelopment.
The Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing has been working closely with Netball SA to minimise disruption to the netball community and will continue to ensure competitions and programs can proceed as normal while redevelopment works are underway.
We appreciate the ongoing patience and support of the community and stakeholders as we deliver this significant investment in sport and recreation infrastructure. We look forward to completing the facility and welcoming participants, spectators and visitors back to a modern, world-class venue.
The below renders provide a preview of the future Mile End Sports Complex and the exciting facilities that will be available upon completion.
