Adelaide University Country Championships

Proudly South Australia's biggest netball event. Netball plays a crucial role in country South Australia and, since its inception in 1936, the Country Championships have played a significant part in promoting the sport within the regional community.

The annual netball competition is proudly the largest netball event held in South Australia, with nearly 1,000 players from 26 country associations descending upon our stadium each June long weekend.

The Country Championships is the pinnacle event for those lucky enough to compete. It serves as the perfect opportunity to showcase regional South Australia’s gifted athletes and put them to the test against some the best talent from across the state. Seventy percent of Netball SA’s state teams are made up of country netballers, so it is essential that we continue to foster this talent.

Teams compete across five divisions ranging from Seniors, 17 & under, 15 & under, 13 & under and 11 & under.

The championships are an excellent way to celebrate the sport, as well as to acknowledge the thousands of officials, coaches, umpires and volunteers involved in our game.

FAQs

The Adelaide University Country Championships will be held at Southern United Netball Association (SUNA), Morphett Vale.

We were thrilled to receive State and Federal funding to allow us a full redevelopment of Netball SA Stadium. Redevelopment works commenced in 2025, with the outdoor courts due to be completed in April 2026. Due to the nature of the construction zone, the decision was made that an event the size of Country Championships was not suitable to be held at the Mile End site.

After consultation with associations and participants after the 2025 event, it was clear that the majority preferred a venue within ~30mins of the Adelaide CBD, as well as access to indoor courts.

Netball SA investigated multiple options, and felt that the venue at Morphett Vale was the ideal option due to the entire precinct being available for event layout, access to the adjacent indoor facility, as well as multiple accommodation options within close proximity.
