An umpire, player, coach, and mentor, when it comes to netball, Lucas Gulin has done it all – and he’s only 16.
It was no surprise when he was recognised last month for his array of achievements in netball as he received the 2024 Crystal Brook Young Citizen of the Year Award.
Lucas has made an outstanding contribution to the Crystal Brook Netball Club, where he coaches, umpires and mentors’ young netball players coming up the ranks.
In 2023, he was named the club’s inaugural Junior Club Person of the Year.
Earlier that year, he was selected to compete at the 2023 Australian Men’s and Mixed National Championships in the U17 boys’ team where he won a silver medal and went on to be selected in the All Star Seven team in wing attack.
He was also named Most Valuable Player for the SAMMNA Southern Dragons 17U state team.
Lucas travels to Adelaide to compete in the SAMMNA Men’s Super League on Monday nights, representing the Oakdale Netball Club.
In addition, he continues to umpire at The Hospital Research Foundation Group Premier League competition and Netball SA’s Country Championships event.
