Cross-code star Darcie Brown was recognised for her achievements in both netball and cricket earlier this month at the SA School Sports Awards.
The Garville Netball Club 2020 Premier League Reserves captain and fast bowler for the Adelaide Strikers was named the winner of the individual secondary category at the ceremony, hosted at the SA Museum.
The young talent was named Garville’s Most Valuable Player in the 2020 Reserves in the same year she made her WBBL debut for the Strikers after being signed by the club in 2019 as a 16-year-old.
Fittingly, Brown received her award from Adelaide Thunderbirds midcourter Hannah Petty and Adelaide Strikers bowler Wes Agar, who were both special guests at the ceremony.
When receiving her award, the Henley High School product said it was amazing to see how women’s sport has grown over the years.
“It’s cool to be able to inspire the younger generations too,” Brown said.
“For my cousins back home to see someone from the country do it makes them think they can do it too.
“I’m pretty lucky to get these opportunities.”
On Tuesday this week, Brown added another achievement to her list when she was named in the Women’s Australian Cricket Team for the first time.
