As the Participation Coordinator – NetSetGO, Beth is the main point of contact for NetSetGO programs across the state and responsible for running the popular Adelaide Thunderbirds School Holiday Clinics.
Beth was offered the maternity-leave contract in the months after she ruptured her ACL in Round 3 of Suncorp Super Netball, which was her second ACL injury in 10 months.
Her choice to take on the role meant she could still be involved with the Adelaide Thunderbirds environment without pressuring her recovery to be ready for the 2020 season.
“I still wanted to be part of the club,” Beth said.
“I’ve settled into Adelaide life really well and I’ve met a boyfriend here, so I didn’t want to leave, and I wanted to keep playing netball.”
“We weren’t sure if I’d be ready for the start of the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season and I wanted a bit more time for my recovery, to make sure I wasn’t pressuring my body too much.”
Having been in the role for two months, Beth said that she’s enjoyed the transition into being a staff member.
“Everyone has been very nice at Netball SA and I like the role. Being in front of a computer has been the hardest thing to get used to, but I really enjoy getting out into grassroots netball and helping develop young players through the NetSetGO program.”
The October Adelaide Thunderbirds School Holiday Clinics were the first set of clinics Beth organised and all went to plan.
“Kara who is now on maternity-leave had everything set up really well. So, it was easy for me to slot into the processes she already had in place.”
“The kids were all really good and the coaching staff were brilliant. It’s great seeing young netballers keen to develop their skills and enjoy the sport.”
Beth is following a rehabilitation program that the club gave her and she’s happy with how her recovery is going.
“Right now I’m doing my weights and running. Further down the line I look forward to hitting the court again and getting my fitness back up.”
