The Barmera Netball Club has taken home the 2025 SIXT Club Excellence Award for Community following a successful year on and off the court.
After a very successful year on court across all age groups and divisions, the Walkerville Netball Club finished the season with a total of seven premierships across both senior and junior grades.
Barmera’s nomination recognised the club’s focus on growing participation, community connection and inclusivity in 2025.
In an effort to cater for all ages and abilities, the club introduced modified netball sessions at the Berri Regional Special School and ran Walking Netball in the summer. In addition, they also ran sessions with the Riverland Special School to encourage participation.
The club’s Pelican-Do initiative also continued to engage retired players, supporters, and grandparents involved through donations of baked goods and soups.
Barmera has also taken a strong focus on increasing its sponsorship and now partners with 38 local businesses, allowing netball in their community to be more affordable.
It also partnered with the Barmera Monash Football Club to run social events for all ages including a disco and rodeo for the kids and a ball and mock wedding for the adults.
They continued to grow their Woolworths Net Set Go program, increasing participation, coaching resources and providing additional skill sessions during school holidays.
Barmera accepted their award at Netball SA’s Gala Awards Night on Friday, September 5th.
