Leadership, respect and exemplary athletic efforts are just some of the attributes Alysia Potts has been recognised for in her 2025 Rubies Most Valuable Player win.
As Rubies Vice Captain, she co-led the team to a bronze medal this year at the Marie Little Shield competition, a tournament designed to provide women with an intellectual disability the chance to compete at a national level.
She also earnt the Naomi Perry Spirit Award at the MLS competition after her efforts in a GD and GK role.
Rubies Head Coach Tricia Crockford said that Alysia has grown enormously over her time involved in the Rubies program.
“Alysia was named as vice-captain this year and has absolutely proved that she is a true leader,” Tricia said.
“The Marie Little Shield provides an opportunity to all athletes of differing skill levels to play netball in an inclusive environment. In all cases, it’s about playing respectfully - walking the line between competitive and supportive.
“Alysia was really able to walk that line this tournament. On court, she supported all other teams - especially those with lower skill levels.
“And off court, she was a key support system for her team. When she wasn’t encouraging her teammates in an unfamiliar environment, she was acting as the team’s TikTok coordinator.
“Coaching the Rubies is a role that extends far beyond teaching the fundamentals of netball. We talk a lot about respect, how we present ourselves in public, when travelling or even when against other teams.
“Alysia embodies this respectful attitude. She’s well on her way to being named a joint-captain of the Rubies.”
When Alysia isn’t playing for the Rubies, she can be found playing for Tango in their C6 competition, or playing basketball, football or cricket!
