Netball SA is proud to announce the athletes selected in its Yakanarna team set to compete at the inaugural First Nations Tournament.
Netball Australia introduced the pilot tournament to provide accelerated and equitable opportunities for First Nations participants in netball.
It will feature under-23 aged teams from every state and territory as they compete across three days of competition.
The side of 10 athletes will partake in the inaugural tournament in Melbourne from Friday, September 13 to 15.
They will be led by Head Coach Vanessa Dempsey (Narungga, Ngarrindjeri and Jingili) and Assistant Coach Gabby Stengle (Kaurna, Ngarrindjeri, Narungga and Wirangu).
The side has been officially named Yakanarna, which means 'older sisters' in Kaurna, to signify the team's connection to Netball SA's Rising Sisters Aboriginal Netball Program.
