Three of the state’s best Woolworths Net Set GO centres have been nominated for the inaugural Centre of the Year Award.
Strathalbyn, Barmera and Strikers netball clubs were chosen as finalists, with the winner to be revealed at the Netball SA Awards Gala on Friday, October 14.
The Award was created to recognised clubs and associations that have made significant contributions to the growth and development of junior netball in their community through the establishment of an accredited Woolworths Net Set GO Centre.
It provides tangible recognition for the efforts of individuals in improving and developing netball at grass roots level.
The below submissions were made for the three clubs:
Strathalbyn Netball Club:
The Woolworths NetSetGO clinics held at Strathalbyn Netball Club are not reserved to Club Members only and is open to anyone in surrounding regional communities. Last term, we had 32 enrolled participants. We also mentor Intermediate Players as Assistant Coaches, in the hope to encourage future opportunities to our upper junior players to improve their netball knowledge, meet new people, foster well-being and give sub-junjor participants an opportunity to aspire to upper junior player role models moral and ethical codes.
Barmera Netball Club:
Ashlee and Jackie have worked hard to start to rebuild our NetSetGO program, after a few tough years with declining numbers and opportunities, due to COVID-19. Their dedication to the group, support of all the players, regardless of ability or experience, has seen the group thrive and build strong skills and passion for the sport, which is a credit to them. In addition to the 10-week program, the players will now have further opportunity to develop their skills, with Ashlee and Jackie offering additional weeks to continue to build this love for netball.
Strikers Netball Club:
Their communication has been great. I also really like the involvement of the junior players helping the kids for warm up before their own training. They're very patient and explain the drills really well, stopping to give that extra help where needed. The club also has a really good family vibe and everyone seems really happy there. We have decided to join up for the summer season.
Not only do they teach the techniques needed for strong, confident and skilled netball players, they club treats them like their own kids. They are nurturing, caring, encouraging and great at fostering a sense of belonging and importance in the club as a whole. Love the club and their Net Set Go program! They are amazing and make the experience so much fun for the kids.
