Two experienced South Australian coaches will take the reins for Netball SA’s Southern Force side bound for the 2021 Australian Netball Championships (ANC) this September.
Jacqui Illman has been appointed to the role of head coach, with Jenny Borlase chosen as assistant coach.
The pair bring extensive coaching resumes to their respective roles, at the state, national and international levels.
An accredited elite coach, Illman is the current head coach of back-to-back Netball SA Premier League champions Matrics Netball Club and was a specialist coach with the Adelaide Thunderbirds in 2020.
She was chosen by Netball Australia as a selector for the 15 and Under School Sport National Championships in 2017 and 2018 and was a 19 and Under State Team Selector in 2013, 2015 and 2018 for Netball SA.
In 2011, she was the assistant coach for the Australian National Netball League.
In her playing days, Illman played for the Adelaide Thunderbirds and the Sydney Sandpipers.
A former international netballer, Borlase has worn many coaching hats since her shooting days for the Australian National Team.
Most recently, she has been head coach of netball at the South Australian Sports Institute since 2017 and a specialist coach for the Adelaide Thunderbirds since 2020.
She has been a selector for South Australia’s Under 17 and 19 sides since 2017 and is a National Performance Panellist in 2021.
As a player, Borlase came through the Netball SA pathway from the Eyre Academy to Garville Netball Club before being selected in the Australian Under 21 Team.
She represented the Adelaide Ravens and Melbourne Kestrels before winning five gold medals with the Australian side between 1989 and 1999.
Last month, Traralgon in Victoria was named host of the 2021 ANC this September 11-19.
The new-look pathway competition replaces the Australian Netball League and will be played in a round robin format for the first time, featuring state and territory member organisations as well as Suncorp Super Netball sides.
