Netball SA has announced captaincy for its 17U and 19U State Teams ahead of this year’s National Netball Championships.
Sophie Casey will lead the 17U side as captain, supported by Lucy Denton as vice-captain.
This year marks Casey’s second appearance in the 17U side after she was a member of the 2019 side who won gold.
In 2020, she was selected in the 17U Netball Australia Centre of Excellence squad and is a current South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) athlete.
She recently made her League debut for Matrics Netball Club in the Netball SA Premier League after playing 13 Reserves games in 2020.
Denton has been named vice-captain in her first year representing her state, recognised for her dedication to the sport.
A member of the Millicent Netball Club, Denton travels four and a half hours one-way for State Team trainings every Sunday.
She was selected in the Netball SA Development Squad in 2020 after being a member of the South East Academy.
South Australia’s 19U side will be led by co-captains in 2021, with Tahlia Dnistrjanski and Paris Sinclair sharing the duties.
Dnistrjanski was a member of the 2019 17U Gold Medal winning team and was selected in the 2020 19U Netball Australia Centre of Excellence squad.
She made her League debut for Contax Netball Club in the Netball SA Premier League in 2019 and has been a consistent part of the League side ever since.
Sinclair was a member of the 2018 17U State side and was selected in the 2020 19U Netball Australia Centre of Excellence squad.
She made her League debut for Tango Netball Club in the Netball SA Premier League in 2018 and remains a consistent member of the League side.
Both Dnistrjanski and Sinclair are also part of the SASI program.
This year’s Championships will be particularly special after the 2020 event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Teams were selected and trained last year but unfortunately were unable to play.
The 2021 event will be held in Hobart from July 6-11.
