South Adelaide Netball Club will be playing for more than just a premiership this Friday night with the chance to make history on the line.
The club’s Premier League Reserves side will take on Matrics Netball Club in the Grand Final at Netball SA Stadium from 6:50pm.
The occasion will mark the first-ever Grand Final appearance for the club in its 21-year history and a win would be momentous.
Proudly known as Woods Panthers Netball Club for its first 20 years, the club joined forces with South Adelaide Football Club in 2021.
As they step on court on Friday night, the side will be determined to make their Panthers family proud and bring honour to the club’s rich history.
“Our club is extremely proud of this side making the Grand Final and the athletes are thrilled to have the opportunity to make club history in our inaugural year as South Adelaide Panthers,” Head coach Scott Fort said.
“This achievement will not just be about the individuals within the team but a whole community achievement as so many people have been a part of our team’s success.
“The athletes are excited to give the junior players at grassroots level something to aspire to and remind them they have the opportunity to be a part of a proud club.”
Make no mistake, the side is ready for a mighty task ahead as they prepare to face back-to-back reigning premiers in the Reserves division, Matrics.
“Matrics are going into this final undefeated in 2021 and are a well-drilled and skilled team, and we are expecting to be pushed for the whole game,” Fort said.
“We really respect Matrics as they are a formidable opponent and are looking forward to the challenge they will present.”
To get the victory, Fort knows having their cheer squad in the stands will be a significant motivator for his side.
After all, their supporters played a big role in his side securing the win over Contax Netball Club in the Preliminary Final last Friday night.
“In the first quarter of the Prelim, Contax come out the blocks fighting as we expected, which created many unforced errors in our first and second quarter.
“Once we settled and played our style of game, we slowly pegged back the score line during the third quarter, and it was our last quarter that saw the girls really connect.
“In the last five minutes of the game, having the SANC crowd’s loud support behind us really enabled the girls to finish the game with the win.”
