Three of the state’s best Woolworths Net Set GO centres have been chosen as finalists for the 2023 Centre of the Year Award.
Penola, West Gambier and Seaford Storm netball clubs were chosen as finalists, with the winner to be revealed at the Netball SA Awards Gala on Friday, September 29.
The Award, which was introduced last year, recognises clubs and associations that have made significant contributions to the growth and development of junior netball in their community through the establishment of an accredited Woolworths Net Set GO Centre.
It provides tangible recognition for the efforts of individuals in improving and developing netball at grass roots level.
The below submissions were made for the three clubs:
Penola Netball Club:
We run a Net, Set Go program every Thursday of Term 2. We have 35 registered participants in 2023, and a number of volunteers helping out. Kim Wilson is the head coach, and she has other junior netballers (15/16 yr olds) help with the other groups. The program is run on the same night and venue as the wider Penola Netball and Football training - to ensure these youngsters are getting amongst the club atmosphere and morale early.
West Gambier Netball Club:
This program has so many positives as it not only provides the opportunity to continue to grow our club with juniors, once they are old enough to try out for our Under 11 Squad, it also gives our junior players the opportunity to gain an insight into how important it is to volunteer their time to their club, and it also provides them with what coaching may look like. WGNC certainly has many positive role models, such as Amy and her crew and we look forward to continuing NetSetGo for many years to come
Seaford Storm Netball Club:
Our program has between 25-30 children aged from 5-10 years old. We ensure that we have a ratio of 1 Coach to every 5 children. We also take the time to chat to each parent to understand the learning needs of their child. This helps ensure the participants get the most out of the program and enjoy coming each week. 90% of our Net Set Go participants go on to play club Netball, which is great to see players move to grass roots.
