Tumby Bay Netball Club will invest in the development of its junior netballers after raising over $6,000 through the Netball SA Community Lottery presented by Mazda.
The fundraising opportunity saw 99 Netball SA affiliated clubs and associations profit from the lottery’s ticket sales, raising a total of $71,130.
Tumby Bay doubled its funds raised from last year, after the local community rallied in support of its netballers.
President of the Tumby Bay Netball Club Stacey Curtis said she was proud of everyone who got involved.
“We were overwhelmed by the support, the girl who got behind this took it to every grade at the netball club and all the senior teams got on board and bought a ticket,” Ms Curtis said.
Curtis said the club intends to invest the money back into the club’s junior development programs.
“We really want to put a lot of effort into developing our juniors whether that be for shades and seats at carnivals or to get Hannah Petty to do a clinic.”
“Even little things like if they make the association teams, we want to be able to pay for them to do that, so families aren’t out of pocket,” Ms Curtis said.
The club’s junior development fund helped support netballer Taryn Beinke when she was named in the 2022 Adelaide Thunderbirds Talent Academy.
“We were able to give her nearly a thousand dollars to try and get her to the next level so if any junior wants to try out, we encourage it and will try and help them out to get further.”
State Manager at Mazda Australia Bill Pattison, said the company was proud of the lottery’s ability to impact netball at all levels.
“We are proud to see our partnership support netball, all the way from grassroots community netball right to the elite level,” Mr Pattison said.
“Mazda and Netball SA share a common vision to enhance and enrich our communities and we’re proud to support positive and healthy habits, based on fitness, teamwork and friendship.”
“Every cent that was raised in the Lottery is retained by the clubs and associations to support programs and facilities, giving players better opportunities and resources.
“It’s amazing to see a regional club like Tumby Bay get behind the Lottery and raise vital funds for their future generation of netballers.”
