A new era and stronger pathway for male netballers in South Australia is coming, with the inaugural Men’s Super League to be introduced this summer.
An evolution of the current M-League, the SA Men’s and Mixed Netball Association (SAMMNA) is proud to launch this new competition to feature the best male netballers in the state.
In a historic first, all six clubs participating in the League hail from Netball SA’s The Hospital Research Foundation Group Premier League:
- Contax Netball Club
- Garville Netball Club
- Matrics Netball Club
- Oakdale Netball Club
- South Adelaide Netball Club
- Tango Netball Club
The move will strengthen the sport’s pathways for men and boys, creating an elevated high performance environment for male netballers to thrive at the top level.
SAMMNA President Steven McInnes said the introduction of the Super League was a testament to the rise in men’s netball nationwide and South Australia’s commitment to inclusivity in the sport.
"We are thrilled to introduce the SAMMNA Super League, a remarkable leap forward for men's netball in South Australia," McInnes said.
“Our state is embracing the momentum in this space to champion the participation and development of boys and men in netball.
“The Super League will be a pivotal driver in this pursuit, fostering an environment where all genders can excel and contribute to the sport's growth.
"Whilst the League will be operated by SAMMNA, our collaboration with Netball SA has been instrumental in bringing this league to fruition, and we are committed to working closely to ensure its strategic growth and long-term sustainability."
Netball SA CEO Bronwyn Klei said the Super League marked a historic milestone in netball’s journey to elevating male participation in South Australia.
“This is a significant step forward in fostering opportunities for men and boys to grow within our sport and the League’s establishment is a testament to SAMMNA’s passion and commitment,” Ms Klei said.
“I am proud to see six of our Premier League clubs join this competition – a show of their commitment to future inclusive underage programs – and I hope this will further encourage our associations across the state to champion opportunities for men and boys.
“Netball is a sport for all, and our future will be brighter with talented netballers of all genders shining a light on the power of our game.”
The SAMMNA Super League will commence in early November, with Round 1 set for Monday evening, November 6, and will run for 10 minor rounds, followed by a 3 round finals series.
All six clubs are currently recruiting for their inaugural teams, which will be announced in the coming weeks.
