With netball on hold due to COVID-19, Netball SA’s Academy athletes will explore an innovative way to stay active during this time.
In the coming weeks, the athletes will take part in a challenge that will see them cover the distance between Gawler and Sydney in their groups, as well as navigate a virtual budget for accommodation, food, incidentals and tourist attractions that incur a cost.
The athletes will be split into nine groups and will work as a team to run the journey as well as budget their activities.
To stay connected, the groups will share their progress in an Academies Facebook group.
Netball SA’s Product and Pathways Manager Roz Fraser, who created the concept, said the challenge would be a great way for the athletes to stay active, connected and engaged during a tough time.
“Our Academies had basically just finished their trials and announced their squads when we went into lockdown and could no longer run anything face to face,” Ms Fraser said.
“I wanted to do something to keep our players involved and the idea of the challenge was created.”
