A proud partner of Netball SA and the Adelaide Thunderbirds, Mazda launched the Mazda Community Netball Grants initiative in 2018 to support and further grow engagement in netball across the state.
Amazons secretary, Jodie Cook, who was the founder and acts as a coach and umpire for the club, said that they are very grateful for the grant money, which will be spent on purchasing new equipment, keeping fees low, and coach and umpire development.
“The Mazda Community Netball Grant will allow Amazons Netball Club to purchase new training bibs, special size balls, training equipment, timers, first aid equipment and whistles for our umpires,” Jodie said.
“The grant will go a long way to supporting our club. As a club of less than 100 members, we do not want to raise prices of registration to cover the cost of replacing equipment that has seen better days.
“Our committee is devoted to encouraging our juniors to continue playing and enjoying netball. With new equipment we hope they will feel super special, as they are, and want to keep playing for many more years.
“We would also love to purchase team bags and ball bags for each of our six teams. These will make life a lot easier for all of our coaches and give our players somewhere to put their clothing whilst playing in the cold, wet climate near Mount Gambier.
“Giving our coaches and umpires access to clinics and helping them gain accreditation is a priority for Amazons Netball Club as this will allow them to provide further training and guidance to all of our players.
“The Mazda Community Netball Grant will help immensely to cover these costs.”
Bill Pattison, Mazda Australia State Manager for South Australia, said the initiative is an important element of Mazda’s Netball SA sponsorship.
“Netball has such a strong place in communities across the state; we hope the grants will support the game’s growth and ultimately help to engage more kids and young people with the sport,” he said.
With six grants available, a winning club will be announced each month from May through October. Grassroots netball clubs around South Australia were invited to apply for the Mazda Community Netball Grants earlier this year.
