Event Guide: School State Championships

All Fixtures can be accessed on the NetballHQ App, download the app and search Netball South Australia in Clubs & Associations, or search for a participants name directly under players to see their games.  

First aid coverage is provided by Sports Trainers SA. The Trainers can deal with the initial care of an injury, basic diagnosis and care and can refer to other medical professionals where required. To contact the Trainers, please visit the First Aid Room located in the satellite building, near court 28.  

There will be a range of Food & Beverage on offer from the canteens and food truck, please refer to the map regarding where food outlets will be located.  

No extra time will be added for an injury stoppage; however, the injured/ill player should still ask the umpire to hold play so they can be safely removed from the game. That position can either be left vacant or replaced straight away prior to play recommencing. In the event of a SERIOUS INJURY umpires will stop the game until the player can safely leave the court. If player cannot be moved umpires will take the game to another court where possible.  

Matches will be centrally timed and will start and finish on the umpire’s whistle. In pool matches, the first named team will take the centre pass; the other team may choose the goal end, The centre pass in any finals will be determined via a coin toss.  

All matches will consist of two (2) x twelve (12) minute halves, with a three (3) minute interval during which teams change ends.   

Each court has an undercover bench, which will be used as the Official Bench.   

In extreme weather conditions, the decision to abandon matches must be made by the Organising Committee.  

The opening ceremony will commence at 9:30am sharp on Thursday September 17 on Court 10 

Presentations will commence post Grand Final games at approximately 2:15pm. Medals will be presented to the winning team and certificates to the runner-up teams. 

Schools will also receive a shield to keep. 

Grand Final MVP awards will be awarded through a panel pre-selected by Netball SA staff and presented in the main presentations post-game. 

The School Excellence Award is designed to recognise sporting excellence across schools, rather than simply rewarding the school that enters the greatest number of teams. To ensure schools of different sizes and participation levels can compete on an equitable basis, only each school's two highest-performing teams contribute to the final score.				 

The award recognises the school demonstrating the highest level of on-court success throughout School Champs. 

- Minor Round Win = 2 points  
- Final Win = 4 points  
- Grand Final Win = 6 points  

A maximum of two teams per school will contribute to the School Excellence Award. Where a school enters more than two teams, the two teams with the highest accumulated points will be counted. Schools entering one team will have that team's points counted.  

In the event of a tie, a winner will be decided through the following process: 
- Number of Grand Final wins across those two teams  
- Number of Final wins  
- Number of Minor Round wins  
- If still tied, joint winners 

Both teams must provide a scorer for each match. Scorers must seated at the officials bench and frequently compare scores to prevent any discrepancies. The white score card is for the Home Team and is the official score, the green score card is for the Away Team and is the check score. Both cards must be filled in for each match. All score cards must be returned to the Competition Office IMMEDIATELY after each game.

The Duty Room must be notified of any changes to team lists at any time during the competition. Players from a lower grade/s registered list/s may be added to a higher grade, but they cannot return to the lower grade. A maximum of 12 players per team may be registered.  

Thursday 17 September: Doors 8:45am – 3:30pm 

Friday 18 September: Doors 8:45am – 3:00pm 

Umpires for the Championships shall umpire their own school for all minor rounds. Umpires for finals will be allocated by Netball SA staff to ensure neutral umpires where possible. If you team is participating in any finals, your umpire is required to be available.
