Teams travel far and wide for Pacific School Games

 

Teams representing Australia’s states and territories, Budgies Indigenous Netball and India, played in the netball competition of the Pacific School Games in early December.

The six-day competition held at Priceline Stadium, saw eight teams compete in the 12/U division and 10 teams in 15/U.

The results were:

12/U

1st – New South Wales

2nd – Victoria

3rd – Queensland

4th – South Australia

15/U

Gold – Victoria

Silver – New South Wales

Bronze – South Australia

In off-court highlights, the 12/U teams attended sessions with Adelaide Thunderbirds athletes Kaitlyn Bryce, Chelsea Pitman and Kate Shimmin. The athletes spoke about their journey to playing at the elite level. The 12/U players then asked Kaitlyn, Chelsea and Kate questions about netball, training, fitness and their university studies.

Budgies Indigenous Netball 15/U team member, Emma Flick-Booth of the ACT, was presented with the Amy Safe (Gillett) Award for her exemplary on-court behaviour and outstanding contribution during the netball competition.

Mary Safe, the mother of the late Amy Gillett (nee Safe), spoke of her family’s pride in having an award named after Amy, who was professional cyclist and keen netballer growing up.
