Broken Hill Netball Association welcomed to Netball SA

The opportunity to receive greater support and for members to compete in more carnivals, were just some of the reasons Broken Hill Netball Association (BHNA) chose to become affiliated with Netball SA.

The Association’s President Parree Cadd said, “Although we are located in New South Wales and we were affiliated with NSW, Broken Hill is 50km from the SA border.

“To travel to carnivals within NSW our members had to drive about eight to nine hours to Dubbo or 13 hours to Sydney. Now we are affiliated with Netball SA, Port Augusta is 4.5 hours away, and Adelaide, 5.5 hours. The decrease in travel time will allow our members to compete and take part in more carnivals and opportunities.

“Further reasons on why we chose to join with Netball SA is the face-to-face support offered, Netball SA umpires available to officiate our top two senior division grand finals and more opportunities for our aspiring athletes, for example opportunities to be coached by Adelaide Thunderbirds players and to be a part of the Spencer Academy.”

Ms Cadd said 2019 is well underway for the Association, which is run differently to South Australian associations.

“Unlike other associations within SA, BHNA is the club and each team are registered as an individual team. We currently have 41 teams registered,” she said.

“At the moment we are working hard with our local council to start resurfacing our courts by seeking court sponsors and fundraising. We are also looking into the possibility of establishing a boys’ competition in 2020.”
