2019 Southern Force squad announced

A new-look Southern Force squad has been named featuring state underage players and stand-outs from the Netball SA Premier League.

New players to the squad include 2018 U/17 team members Lucy Austin, Georgie Horjus and Molly Watson. While Maisie Nankivell, Asha Thurlow and Chelsea Blackman are some of the returning athletes.

Southern Force Head Coach Brian Lines said the squad is currently coming together twice a week, once for training and the other for match play. The team will be announced in early February 2019.

“This will be another exciting year for the Southern Force as we look to expose and develop athletes in our state for opportunities in the future,” he said.

“We certainly want to go that one step further and play in the Deakin University Australian Netball League (DUANL) finals.

“Our squad is working hard to prepare and give themselves the best opportunity to be selected in the team – it’s going to be a tough decision.”

With 2018 captain Gia Abernethy and vice-captain Kelly Altmann now playing for Sirens Netball in the Vitality Netball Superleague and the Adelaide Thunderbirds, respectively, Lines said he will be looking to athletes who have been exposed to the DUANL competition to guide the new group.

“Players like Asha Thurlow and Maisie Nankivell come to mind. We are also excited and hopeful to have Emily Burgess return to us from injury,” he said.
