Netball SA has announced its coaching and management staff for the 17U and 19U teams, with Lee-Anne Cummins taking on Head Coach for the 17 Under team and Kirsty Leonard-Down (pictured) taking up the Head Coach position for the 19 Under team.
2018 will be the fifth year Cummins has been Head Coach for the 17U team. In April this year the team celebrated a back-to-back win at the National Netball Championships.
Cummins will be supported by Sharon Kasteliz as she takes on her third year in the Team Manager role for the 17U team.
Leonard-Down steps into her third year as Head Coach for the 19U team, having coached them to a bronze medal in the 2015 and 2016 National Netball Championships. She has also coached Garville Netball Club’s Premier League Reserves from 2012-2017, held the assistant coach role for Premier League from 2014-2017, and participated in Netball SA’s Targeted Coach Program in 2016 and 2017.
Jo Whelan will reprise her role as Team Manager for the 19U team, having taken on the role in both 2016 and 2017. Whelan is an experienced team manager, having held the same role for the Nine News Netball Cup Premier Division team and current champions, Contax, since 2012 (and prior to that, for the Reserve Division team from 2008-2011).
To provide development opportunities for team staff, for the first time Netball SA will be appointing an apprentice Team Manager for its underage teams. Stephanie Cains, who has held the team manager position for Matrics Netball Club’s Premier Division in 2017 and its Reserves Division from 2015-2016, has been awarded this position.
The National Netball Championships will be held in Adelaide from 17-22 April 2018. Registrations for trials close 13 October – see the website for further information.
